People, Pets and Parasites provides a comprehensive overview of the major parasites affecting pets and their owners in North America. It includes a thorough discussion of parasite-related diseases, transmission methods and lifecycles as well as public health considerations and control and prevention strategies. Case-based scenarios illustrate how the entire healthcare team can encourage client awareness and compliance with parasite prevention programs.
After completing the program, the veterinarian and veterinary technician will be able to:
• Recognize the signs and symptoms of a pet with fleas, ticks, heartworms, intestinal worms and protozoan infections.
• Explain the importance of consistent parasite control to their clients with regards to the zoonotic potential of each parasite.
• Recommend appropriate prevention and treatment strategies to help clients and their pets avoid future parasite infestations.
• Identify opportunities for educating clients on the importance of parasite control and prevention.
This course has been accredited for 4 hours of continuing education through RACE and the Ontario Veterinary College.
